Letter 138
There is talk of our having a new Bishop next year. They have refused this dignity because in this as in all their proceedings they are truly apostolic men imitating Jesus Christ remaining hidden as much as possible for His love. It is not astonishing because it is humility that makes the saints as we have seen in those great servants of God who have been martyred in these lands. Before their martyrdom they were so humble that they astonished those who had the good fortune to be in their company. I should have to write a book to say all I know of them, though what I don’t know is much greater. From Quebec between 13th October and 17th November 1651.
