TO WHOM, AND TO WHAT DID SHE GIVE HER NAME ?
Her name is also kept/ remembered as a heritage to be unimpaired, alive and infused, for the moneyless as well as the learned ones. We wish to bring out some landmarks from here and abroad. Mary of the Incarnation Center, 10, Donnacona Street, Québec. The tomb of Mary of the Incarnation lies in the Monastery of the Ursulines next to the chapel, and sets up an oasis of prayer for the surrounding people and also groups of pilgrims and tourists. A museum and a center of information and documentation conduce to initiate and enrich a deeper knowledge about the founder of the Ursulines in Canada. These scenes are especially important to the students of the Ursulines whose school is in the same place, rebuilt under Mary of the Incarnation’s careful guidance. A guided and active approach called: ‘’Sur les pas de Marie de l’incarnation‘’ is offered to all the students of the Ursulines school. Thus, the students can discover Mary of the Incarnation life linked to the history of their school opened four hundred years ago. SAMI Spirituality of Angela Mérici and Mary of the Incarnation. Young adults are initiated by Ursuline accompanying Sisters, who initiate them to the spirituality of the Founders of the Ursulines, Saint Angela Merici and Blessed Mary of the Incarnation. These meetings become pathways to discovering a route to God and a meaning to life. CEMI (Quebec) At Laval University of Quebec, pursuing a proposal of the Ursulines, the Centre d’Etudes Marie de l’Incarnation opened its activities in 199 (?). Since then, an ad hoc committee determines the contents and organises study-meetings on the Testimonial and the Letters of Mary of the Incarnation. It follows that teachers, searchers and students from different Universities, fields of knowledge, and admirers of Mary of the Incarnation wish to invest in studying her writings more extensively. These four meetings a year, opened to the public, are organised as called seminars. Let us note in passing, that, in 1999, on Mary of the Incarnation’s birthday the CEMI took part in the preparation of two International University Colloquiums first in Tours, then in Loretteville, in honour of the 400th anniversary of her birth. Mary of the Incarnation College This Ursuline School was founded in 1697, on the arrival of the Sisters in Trois-Rivières. As Mary of the Incarnation had passed away in 1672, she had really never been in Trois-Rivières. Later, the primary and secondary levels were offered to the young girls. In 1935, the ‘’classical course’’ was organised, under the name of Mary of the Incarnation, for all young girls; it continued until the moment of its withdrawal by the Ministère de l’Education in 1968. The primary and secondary school are still continuing. Mary of the Incarnation (Home) (Baie-Comeau) This home is available to single mothers and their children, and is under the responsibility of the Ursulines. Mother of the Incarnation Home (Matane) The Ursulines insure individual or group spiritual accompaniment. Marie – Guyart Home (Cap d’Espoir, Gaspé) This home offers several activities connected to diocesan activities such as : Brebis de Jésus, Eveil à la Vie, Initiation Sacrementelle, SOS Faim, Aide aux élèves en difficulté, rencontres d’associés, etc. The one presently in charge is: Hélène Soucy Audet, 418-782-5414. It displays a stained glass of the 1635 dream in which Mary of the Incarnation saw Saint Joseph pointing the way to reach the church of the locality. • At the Quebec Parliament Building, the facade is adorned with the statue of Mary of the Incarnation in one of its niches. • At the church of Sainte-Luce-sur-mer, the parish priest Fr. Pierre-Félix Sirois asked the Ursulines of Rimouski for a stained glass design. Sister Sainte-Hélène (Imelda Joubert) and Sainte-Jeanne-de-Chantal (Marthe Lepage) prepared the sketch which was realized by : Maison Henri Perdriau (Montréal) 1918 – 1919. Mr. Thomas Baillargé 1838 –1840 was the famed architect of this 1955 acknowledged historical monument church (parish archives). • In Matane, at the church Bon Pasteur, a stained glass represents Mary of the Incarnation teaching in the shade of a tree. Four centuries after her death in 1672, Mary of the Incarnation ranks among the persons sharing the collective memory of France, her native Country, and of Canada, ‘’my Country‘’ she would say. Her dynamic contribution to the building of our Church and Country engraved for ever her name in the stone which identifies establishments and groups. People have recognised the value of this woman, and also educative principles which give a meaning to life and fully mold a person. Her name is also kept/ remembered as a heritage to be unimpaired, alive and infused, for the moneyless as well as the learned ones. We wish to bring out some landmarks from here and abroad. | |
