‘’Oak’’ Jubilee of Sister Germaine Belles-Isles in Rimouski. Sister Germaine lives at the Health Centre of Rimouski. ’ She is always cheerful, laughs a lot, and also hears and sees everything ‘’. She enjoys visitors and looks at TV, especially Bugs Bunny.  She loves to pray; it makes her happy, she says.  She is in good health and enjoys company, although maintaining a profound interior life far from daily preoccupations. 2009 underlines both events: her 108 years of age and her 80th  anniversary of religious profession.

This is true rareness. This  is called an ‘’oak’’ jubilee because one has to be as sturdy as an oak to reach to reach the age of 108. On June 20, Bishop Pierre-André Fournier celebrated mass with the Sisters of her community and a few relatives. Excerpt from M. Emie Wells – published May 6 - in : LE  PROGES-ECHO  ET LE  RIMOUSKOIS.

Oak Jubilee of Sister Simone Morin in Magog

The year 1929, for many of us,  is synonomous of the  Great Depression. But,  for Sister Simone Morin, it represents the official opening of her religious life,  a vocation which keeps ever blooming for 80 years.

A member of the community of the Ursulines of Magog,  formerly living in the Stanstead Monastery where she pronounced her first vows on  March 19, 1929.  Many Ursuline colleagues and notables celebrated this happy jubilee lately with deep emotion. We all recognise the wonderful personality and  the quick-witedness of our jubilarian, in spite of her reaching the age of 102  next July. One could easily  give her 20 years younger.

Born at Ascot Corner, Sister Simone had been long teaching at the Ursuline College of Stanstead, and at the same time had been responsible for different groups.  From 1960 to 1972, she was appointed Coucillor General of her Order. ‘’Educating and teaching are demanding.  In my younger days I felt Jesus’ call to religious life, and I have never regretted my decision. I have always been happy with my choice’’, she most serenely states.

Sister Simone is unable to identify the secret of her longevity and good health.  Nevertheless, her Superior thinks it depends on her regular good habits. ‘’She maintains healthy and possesses  great wisdom.  Never does she judge others and always  remains positive, ’  said Sister Helene Plourde, Superior of the community. Excerpt by M. Patrick Trudeau,  from the local news paper Le Reflet du Lac, published on March 19, 2009.
